When it comes to my taste in interiors, I love so many different styles and trends. Sometimes I find it hard to be completely content with the rooms in my home as Iβm constantly wanting to switch things up and sometimes mix styles that donβt necessarily fit together that well. I do however, love how things look when certain alternate pieces and trends are incorporated into a room. I think some things can just look so good together and create such a nice contrast. Today Iβm sharing some of my favourite kinds of ways to mix different interior stylesβ¦
Lights and darks
I love the cosy feel of a dark room, dark painted walls and dark wood floors but then lightening them up with a big cream rug, lots of white/marble ornaments and candles. I think itβs nice to do a half and half wall too where you paint the bottom section in a dark colour and leave the top half white like Iβve done in my kitchen/dining area and hallway. I think this gives you so much freedom without being bound to styling a completely dark room, and it already leaves you with a mixed βshellβ if you like, so that way itβs easier to use lots of dark and light decor.
Β Old and new
Mixing old and new is another combination I absolutely love. Admittedly, I havenβt incorporated enough of this into my own home. I keep meaning to hunt down some vintage furniture and decor finds but I can never find the right places to pick them up! Iβm going down to Norfolk at the end of next month and I have heard of a really cool vintage shop there so Iβm planning on popping in but I donβt think Iβll be bringing back anything big as I canβt fit it in the car with all my passengers! On Pinterest I constantly see lovely victorian homes with old floorboards but lots of modern furniture and decor and I think it looks gorgeous. Iβd love to achieve this myself even though I live in a new build β maybe with some engineered wood flooring as Flooring365 do a gorgeous oak brushed wood flooring that would do the job perfectly!
Β Monochrome and colour
A lot of my home is fairly neutral and some areas are very black & white, but I love having certain corners of a room kept quite plain jane and then adding gallery walls and splashes of colour in other areas. My fireplace in my living room for example is black with white painted bricks and a black mirror above it β but Iβm going to swap out the mirror for a gold one soon just to brighten things up a little. I love the mixture! I also always try and have a vase of fresh flowers on the mantle to add a pop of colour. The chest of drawers I have in my bedroom are white with black knobs, and the decor on top is very neutral so thereβs little colour in that space, but I will often add in a couple of pops of gold just to spice things up. Sometimes only a little colour is needed to work well.
